Our grant funded Sense programme helps children living in poverty and children with learning difficulties.
Grant funded sessions
Our pilot project was funded by Calderdale Council and the Big Lottery. The project, led by a team of volunteers, benefited 96 children aged 3-4 across 6 Children's Centres in Calderdale. The pod was transformed into different multi-sensory environments, including seaside and woodland. Children also played with treasure baskets containing over 50 sensory-rich items, chosen for their textures, colour, properties, shape and weight.
Sense builds on the pilot project working exclusively with Innovations, Jubilee and Kevin Pearce Children's Centres in Calderdale. The project benefited children living in poverty and children with mild to moderate learning difficulties. The project was funded by Children In Need. Grow Big recruited its first team of sensory play workers.
Children will demonstrate improved play and early learning skills, raised confidence and self esteem and increased communication.
From September 2017 the project is being funded by Children In Need. This funding will be used to deliver sensory play sessions at Kevin Pearce Children's Centre, Innovations Children's Centre, Ash Green Children's Centre and St Augustine's Nursery.
From September 2016 the project was funded by the Big Lottery. This funding was used to deliver sensory play sessions at St Augustine's Nursery for 12 months.
