WINNERS! Early Years Achievement

Updated: May 23

On Friday the 8th March, Rachel and Lucy joined lots of other hopeful nominees at The Creative Learning Guild, a charity based in Yorkshire that supports the grassroots creative learning movement across the UK. Organisations, individuals and charities came from all over the UK to be part of these inaugural awards, some making huge journeys - we felt pretty lucky to have only travelled down the road from our office in Ovenden!

Causey Hall, Halifax

The day started with an introduction and speech by Colin Jackson (Trustee) and Rob Young (Award Judge), followed by a fun ice-breaking activity, introduced by Ruth Gamble from the Guild. The new national Creative Learning Awards celebrate the inspirational innovators, educators and practitioners who live and breathe creative learning. The awards range across 15 categories, including formal education, the arts and creative business. You can find out more about the awards, judges and Trustees here.

We spent the rest of the day creating, chatting and sharing ideas with a fantastic bunch of people. We really did feel privileged to be amongst such inspiring folk from all walks of life, all committed to creative learning.

The Handmade Parade ran workshops throughout the day; we loved adding our images to the structure in the hall - it looked amazing at the end!

After a picnic lunch, it was time for....drumroll please.....the awards! We couldn't believe it when our name was read out, and we would like to congratulate all the other winners and nominees, whom we feel lucky to be amongst. We hope that this award will help to promote sensory play, and the important role it has in healthy child development.

BAFTA winning Rob Young said "For me, there are no winners, just a fine bunch of people who have earned our respect through graft, craft, and ... something else, something elusive and very difficult to define. In their own modest way, they have shown us the best that humanity can be." We love him!

Thank you to Children In Need and Community Foundation for Calderdale, to Spacecadets for our lovely pod, pictured here in our beautiful award, and Handmade Parade for the brilliant activities on the day. And obviously to The Creative Learning Guild! #CLGawards! @Causeyhall

Proud as punch!
